🌍 September 27 marks International Tourism Day

A recent report from Statistics Estonia provides a good opportunity to see how tourism is faring around the world and in Estonia.

📈 Inbound tourism to Estonia is growing. In 2025, nearly 1.95 million international tourists stayed at Estonian lodging establishments, a 5% increase from the previous year. This growth has continued this year as well—in the first half of 2026, the number of international tourists increased by 5% and the number of overnight stays by 7%.

✈ Estonia’s connectivity is also showing positive signs. In the first six months of this year, nearly 1.77 million passengers passed through Tallinn Airport—a 9% increase from the previous year—and the number of cruise passengers arriving at the Port of Tallinn grew by nearly half.

At the same time, travel by Estonian residents has become more subdued. In 2025, there were 3% fewer international trips with overnight stays and 12% fewer domestic trips than in the previous year. This shows that travelers’ price sensitivity and purchasing power continue to have a strong impact on tourism.

For ETFL, these figures once again confirm how important good international accessibility, strong air and sea connections, and the ability of tourism businesses to give travelers a reason to stay longer in Estonia are for the competitiveness of Estonian tourism.

Tourism isn’t just about traveling—it means jobs, entrepreneurship, international connections, and raising Estonia’s profile around the world.

Happy International Tourism Day to everyone in the tourism industry and to our partners! 🌍
